If you want to visit after a day of sightseeing, a few London museums and galleries have regular evening openings. Check the venue’s own page on the day: individual exhibitions, galleries and last-entry times may differ from the building hours.

Plan an evening by area
South Kensington on Friday: the V&A can anchor an evening visit after daytime time at the Natural History Museum or Science Museum. Its permanent collection is free, but choose galleries that stay open late. Bloomsbury and Trafalgar Square on Friday: visit the British Museum until its Friday closing time, or choose the National Portrait Gallery or National Gallery for a later evening. The City on Thursday or Friday: visit a Barbican exhibition, then stay for food, a film or a concert if the programme appeals to you. Each venue’s booking and last-entry arrangements are separate.
British Library in the evening
The British Library is not a museum, but its free Treasures Gallery is useful for an evening visit. It normally opens until 8 pm from Monday to Thursday. Reading Rooms, temporary exhibitions and other spaces have their own hours, so check the specific area you want to visit.
Special Museum Lates
Science Museum Lates are adults-only events on selected dates, usually 6.30–10 pm. Reserve a place when tickets are required. The Natural History Museum also lists occasional evening events. Check the event date, age rule and booking details before making an evening plan.
