- Starting Point: Notting Hill Gate underground station, London travel zone 1.
- Walking route: From Notting Hill Gate we’ll walk towards Portobello Road to explore Portobello Road Market. We will also explore more of this area, and find some Notting Hill Film Locations and other historic places.
- Finish: Either Notting Hill Gate or Ladbroke Grove Underground stations.
Saturday is the busiest day for Portobello Road Market, with the broadest selection of traders. Go then for the full market atmosphere; choose another trading day if you prefer more space.

What to look out for along the walk
Starting at Notting Hill Gate, make your way towards the southern end of Portobello Road. Take a little time in the antique shops and galleries, including those tucked behind narrow shopfronts. Continue north past stalls selling clothes and gifts towards the fresh food and street food sections; the market continues towards Golborne Road if you have time. For a shorter loop, turn back through the surrounding residential streets to see the colourful houses and small mews rather than spending the whole visit on one road.
Film fans can also follow the marked stops in our Notting Hill guide, including the bookshop locations and the famous door. The former film locations are places in a lived-in neighbourhood, so enjoy them from the street and give residents space. If the antiques are your main reason for visiting, start at Notting Hill Gate; if you would rather begin at the market’s northern end, arrive at Ladbroke Grove and walk south against the usual direction of the crowds.
Saturday morning is our favourite time for the full market, but it can be very busy by midday. Even on a quieter weekday, the shops, houses and streets still make this a worthwhile walk. Trader hours differ across the market, so use its current schedule for a particular stall.
