Camden Town is a good choice when you want a walk built around food stalls, independent shops and the canal rather than timed attractions. This route takes you from Camden Town station along the High Street through Camden Market and Stables Market, then across to Hawley Wharf. Leave room to browse: the stalls are the point of the walk.

Estimated time and Distance
Allow around 2–3 hours for this approximately 1.5-mile route, or longer if you stop for food and shopping.
When to go
Camden Market trades seven days a week, including most bank holidays, and closes on Christmas Day. Individual shops and restaurants may have different hours. Check the official opening times before visiting a particular trader. Weekends are usually busiest; we would come around lunchtime for the food stalls, or earlier for a quieter browse.
Camden Town Walking Route in detail
Underground station: Camden Town (London Travel Zone 2).
- Turn right as you exit the tube station at Camden Town, and walk along Camden High Street. This is where you´ll see some of Camden´s distinctive shop fronts, with their iconic gigantic logos and figures. This is where you will find some high street shops as well as shops that sell alternative fashion, one of Camden’s main attractions.
- One of the first places you will see on your right is the Electric Ballroom, an iconic music venue. Check its own events calendar if you plan to go inside.
- As you continue walking, you will find two outdoor markets: Inverness Market on Inverness Street to your left and Camden Market Buck Street to your right.
- As you continue, you will get to the bridge to cross Regent’s Canal. This is Camden Lock, and a few restaurants and cafes can be found alongside the canal at Camden Lock.
- At this point, we would recommend that instead of crossing the bridge, we turn left and walk along the canal so we can cross the black and white bridge. Once you cross this bridge, you will arrive at Camden Lock Market, and from here you can walk through to Stables Market.
- Once you enter the market, keep walking! This is where you will find the famous shop Cyberdog, the statue of Amy Winehouse, and Camden’s famous food stalls.
- Once you have explored Stables Market, we will cross Camden High Street and walk towards Hawley Wharf. This is where you will find Babylon Park and The Hawley Arms.
